About Scott Berry

I graduated from Albertville (Alabama) High School in 1988 and obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in instrumental music education from Jacksonville State University in 1991.  Thereafter, I obtained my Master’s Degree in instrumental music education from Auburn University in 1993.

I was an Alabama public school teacher (middle and high school band director) for more than a decade in various Alabama city and county public school systems from 1992 and beyond, in addition to often performing as a professional musician before I completed law school and changed careers into the private practice of law in May 2006.

In December 2005 I graduated magna cum laude and 3rd in my class of 102 graduating students from the Birmingham School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama.  After taking and successfully passing the February 2006 administration of the Alabama State Bar Examination, I ultimately “changed careers” from public education and entered into the practice of law in May 2006 with the law firm of Berry and Associates, LLC, located in Albertville, Alabama.

In 2009 I established and formed my own general-practice private law firm, SCOTT BERRY, P.C., located in Scottsboro, Alabama, where I reside with my wife, Lisa, and our three sons.

From 2009-2014 I served on and was a charter member of the Commercial Development Authority Board for the City of Scottsboro, Alabama, where I presided as Board Chairman from 2012-2014.  Since 2012 I have served as legal counsel for the Housing Authority of the City of Scottsboro, Alabama and also as legal counsel for the Bridgeport, Alabama Housing Authority since 2016.  Also in 2016 I was appointed as the (part-time) Municipal Judge for the City of Stevenson, Alabama.  I am the immediate past-president of the Jackson County (Alabama) Bar Association (2016-2017) and I currently serve as the Municipal Judge for the CIty of Scottsboro, Alabama (September 2018-present).

I am a member of the Alabama State Bar Association and the Jackson County (Alabama) Bar Association.  While I like to specialize in the area of wealth accumulation/preservation & estate management, I also routinely appear in courts of law throughout and across north and central Alabama litigating cases in the legal areas of:  (1.) creditors’ rights, debt collection and the collection of disputed accounts;  (2.) general civil litigation;  (3.) personal injury law;  (4.) criminal defense law;  (5.) probate practice and elder law;  (6.) family, divorce and juvenile court law;  (7.) real estate & property law;  (8.) Alabama public school law; and  (9.) general business law.

I am a two (2) time cancer survivor, a Christian, an American Patriot, a classically-trained professional musician, a band arranger and a musical composer.  I enjoy fishing, financial investing & studying finance, economics and financial markets; reading, writing, spending time with my family and friends and traveling with family and friends, whenever possible, when not playing music or practicing law.  I often appear as a "motivational speaker" about issues related to the survival of cancer and what it takes to be successful in different professional careers.  I'm always happy & eager to speak to any group, and most especially to student groups, church groups and young people!
